Town are the only team not to have a sub score a goal this season out of the entire 92. Ipswich have had 21! And we have made 142 subs which is actually above average.

Or it shows just how bad our injury crisis has been this season with nothing left on the bench a lot of time On 16 Occasions our striker sub was max mata who scored one goal this year (when starting) - the crucial one against port vale for 3 points. Only 3 times was it Udoh 20 times it was Bowman, who has scored four goals this year including three in one night but all as a starter not as a sub.

Hardly bashing the club more pointing out a shortfall which is a question I’m sure the staff and coaches are concerned about. Injuries could be one reason, strength in depth with a lack of impact could be another. Perhaps someone can check how many Whalley scored off the bench before we released him? Who’s been our most successful impact sub in recent years?

Could be that on a number of occasions subs were left too late to make an impact.

Can't say I'm surprised in the slightest. Generally if we concede first we go onto lose, I wouldn't say that it's necessarily because we have no character, more that we don't have a plan B and don't have the players to come on and make a difference. Part of that is down to the quality of players but it's also the type of player, we have very little creativity, pace & attacking flair in the squad.
Plus, let's not forget that we've struggled to score goals in 90 minutes, expecting a sub to score in 20 is asking a bit much.

Hadn't heard that but isn't a surprise I guess.
Town remain the lowest scorers in the EFL.
Town have had 4 strikers this season (2 aren't here now) and only Udoh has got more than 1 league goal.
Squad doesn't have anyone off the bench that is likely to score

As well as being amongst the lowest scorers in the FL we have had virtually no penalties either.
Tells you all you need to know about how poor we have been going forward.
Get this season over and safe then move onto putting things right next autumn.

Anyway - all stats will change with new coaches, over time...

Hardly a squad full of 'impact' players off the bench though is it

Get this season over and safe then move onto putting things right next autumn. The club directly above us, Charlton have scored nearly double what we have! We've just not had any flair/game changers on the bench for a while now.

I sense/hope this will change under Hurst, he's quoted as saying there is no width in the squad and no set piece takers.
Also how do you go a full season with only one full back in a squad.

Anyway - all stats will change with new coaches, over time... theanalyst.com/eu/2024/03/substitutes-breaking-records-english-football-league/page 5, it is ranked by sub goals + sub assists which we have 2! Sutton Utd 5 + 2 Notts Co 5 + 2 Burnley 5 + 2 N. Forest 4 + 3 West Ham 3 + 3 Sheff Utd 3 + 3 Stoke 3 + 2 Burton 4 + 1 Cheltenam 2 + 2 Shrewsbury 0 + 2

Yep.....be nice to see a wider pitch, and a couple of wingers next season.......still think that pitch was narrowed for fitness reasons under cotterill.and deffo left the same under Taylor...these players could never get round that size of pitch, when Hurst was in charge first time round.be interesting to see if it gets widened for next season

You can make stats mean anything. They used to say that Liverpool never lost when Ian Rush scored. That says more about their defence. If they never concede more than one then it’s also true of any other scorer.

One player who is out on loan, one player who cant get on the subs bench most of the time.

Thank you - appreciated --Hopefully we can get off the bottom of that table and get some points too Get one more win and we can probably start thinking about next season. Hurst is the biggest factor in getting fans through the gate, after a full preseason they know they'll at least be watching a side who are fit enough to get around a pitch for 90 minutes and will be well drilled with some attacking intent. We've been absolutely starved of excitement, other than the odd well executed plan under Cotts since Hurst left the first time round! Roll on next season, I just pray the chairman backs him.

Spot on Martin.....teams fitness has been poor since Hurst left the first time.i'm still trying to fathom out, whether the pitch was shortened for fitness reasons or tactical reasons.....as we all can see,the fitness this season has been shocking to say the least, but nothing much Hurst can do about that now.....but I'm looking forward to next season now...with a fitter and more organized town team, with an attacking intent

Is the situation any better if you factor in Cup Goals, Although I don't think any were scored by subs I seem to recall being a little more 'free scoring'

We concede 1.5 a game, we scored less than 1 a game across an entire season, it's probably a lot better going forwards under Hurst.
