My home town team. Used to go home and away since promotion season of 1996 under Neil Warnock until they folded....then I moved down here and started watching the Shrews.
Fond memories, some great games including cup upsets Vs Chelsea etc when they were top of the old 1st division. Sad when they folded, council did nothing to help and then sold their ground to Aldi who didn't build on it for years.
Phoenix club Scarborough Athletic set up down the road and much better times more recently. Decent crowds in the Conf North after working their way through the division's, fan owned and many many youngsters in the town supporting them over the likes of Leeds etc.

I was there that day when Quinn scored , I believe he started , first start , rumours there was a training ground fight the day before , possibly Luke Rodgers and Steve watts , both missing , watts had a big strapping on his hand

I’m sure I went there twice and remember it for being fun because of the company I was with. Uni students some of whom were at their first football match ever!
By coincidence I now have a friend who travels frequently from Liverpool to watch Scarborough as he holidays there regularly. He says they are a great little club and really friendly.

My only visit with Town was a Tuesday night game which I think without checking was the season before we won the division so probably 92/3.
Definately had Carl Griffiths playing and scoring too I think, so would have had John Bond as manager.
Had been before in their first FL season, I'd done the 92 and was keeping that record intact.

Although I'm surprised that it was a midweek game as I don't recall it being under the floodlights, maybe the evenings were light enough by then.

It was late April I think so most of it would have been still light.

In my football supporting lifetime, 1964-present, while there have been a number of newcomers to the league, there has also been the demise of former members - some of whom came back and some who didn't.
Off the top of my head, the following were in the football league at some point during those years and never returned;
Workington Bradford Park Avenue Halifax Town Southport Hereford Chester Hartlepool Aldershot Torquay Boston Scarborough Yeovil Barnet Rushden & Diamonds Dagenham Maidstone Macclesfield Darlington
Some lost their status, but managed to return ...eventually;
Doncaster, Shrewsbury, Wrexham, Barrow, Grimsby, Colchester.
I may have missed some. Suggestions on a postcard please.

Carlisle, Stockport and Notts County to the second. Sure there will be more. EDIT Sc***horpe to list one Newport County to list two.

I went with Salop to Scarborough just the once. I've never been so cold in my life. What made it worse was I was Billy no mates. The udders stayed the wickend, but I couldn't because I had something to do on Sunday morning. I can't remember the score, but we didn't lose. When I got back home I popped out for a drink, but I just had a quick pint and came home and went to bed to warm up. Luckily for me, I had a lovely dragon to cuddle up to, although she moaned like hell about my feet being cold!
Never again. I'll bet the donkey's on the beach wear donkey jackets to keep warm.

A few more ex league clubs admittedly some before Seversides time but JT and Armchair will remember 😉 (I’ve had a list of all time clubs saved for years)
Aberdare Athletic not realected 1926/27 Ashington. Not reflected 1928/29 Bootle. Resigned 1892/3 Darwin. Resigned 1888/9 Durham City not realected 1927/28 Gainsborough Trinity not realected 1911/12 Glossop not realected 1914/15 Loughborough not realected 1899/00 Maidstone United. 1991/2 liquidated Nelson. Not realected 1930/31 New Brighton. Not realected 1950/51 New Brighton Tower. Liquidated 1901/2 Northwich Victoria Resigned 1893/4 Stalybridge Celtic Resigned 1922/23 Thames Resigned 1931/32
Theres a few more ‘defunct’ clubs where the location has a replacement club like various Rotherham’s and Burtons Middlesbrough…
Only two clubs have ever been ‘expelled’ from the football league. Guess who?
