Perhaps that’s why he’s on a three year contract!

The manager is still on the hunt for a striker or two.
At this rate any new signing could be playing for us before Mata does!

International clearance for footballers doesn't normally take too long. I'm sure it will be sorted soon. There would be no international signings it weeks/months.

My bet is the Home Office would have got their finger out for a Prem club for fear of being castigated by the tabloids.

Strange that Harry Kane was cleared to play yesterday within hours of signing yet Max Mata's clearance is taking an age. Different rules for the elite maybe??

Different rules for the elite maybe?? as mentioned there is a criteria to be met, based on the players nations Fifa ranking and games played, harry kane would be automatically granted, Max will need to jump through more hoops to get his, in the case of Max it could be up to 3 weeks

Yes, the Home Office is in complete disarray, so them not being in the loop enabled things to be completed efficiently. There's rumours the Home Office might be split into three to try to resolve the mess they are in.

Excellent, when all else fails due to years of austerity cost cutting and headcount reduction, they will now bring in the likes of Mckinsey and Pwc to split it up and re brand everything.

If there’s any truth in that it just shows that this shambles of a government is still ideologically wedded to giving money to shareholders of private companies rather than using public money effectively and funding the Home Office properly. There’s no doubt that reform is needed but do they still expect us to believe that the private sector would run things better? Have no lessons been learned from the mess made of the water industry, probation service, railways etc etc?

Does anyone know if he can even train at the moment? Or take a wage from the club? I would assume not if it’s all classed as working?
What a sorry state of affairs.

I'm sure he can train, lots of players train with clubs out of contract if the club are happy for you to do so. Maybe cant take a wage until it's all sorted but can still be earnt, even if he might have to wait till all paperwork is sorted before he can receive it.

My guess, he can train, as he could if he was on holiday here. His pay? Being put into an account so he can have the lump sum when he's cleared to work?
No clearance by tomorrow and it's time to kick up a stink! The efl/FA should support us too.

Yes I’m afraid this is just one example of the hideous state of affairs at the moment.
However, I’m convinced that if this was a player going to a high profile Premier League club it would all have been sorted by now.

I would like to know who is stalling with giving international clearance of Mata, is it on the UK side or is it at the New Zealand end, ever it is they need to get off their chuffs and start getting their arses into gear, as this has become a disgraceful situation that needs rectifying without any further delays from any political arena's.

Could raise it with the local MP, he likes to think he supports the club. With 5 matches missed, it’s already almost 10% of the season.

I do wonder how well the club are handling the application for a visa itself. I read the form and it's a cracker to fill in. Following previous mistakes made such as Tom.bradshaws contract I hope they have been chasing it with the Fa and home office.it seems to be not progressing in the time as stated in guidelines above

Following previous mistakes made such as Tom.bradshaws contract I hope they have been chasing it with the Fa and home office.it seems to be not progressing in the time as stated in guidelines above The Home Office in general is in chaos at the moment, with staff being moved around all the time to focus in issues like the Ukraine refugees and the ongoing issues with the backlog of migrants/asylum seekers, as well as the post brexit changes for EU workers. I know a lot of agricultural businesses in Shropshire have had great difficulty in getting visas through for workers, and in some cases workers who came annually are just not coming as the process is so slow. Its quite likely that lower league football visas aren't their priority Another complication might be that Mata was playing in Ireland before joining us, and may have had a EU Visa to work there, where as to play in England he can no longer use that post brexit, so is probably having to apply from scratch using his New Zealand citizenship. Those are subject to slightly stricter rules about having a sponsor (employer) and evidence of wages matching industry standards so as not to be undermining UK workers with cheap wages Would have thought it should be sorted quite soon but no guarentee with the way things are at the Home Office
