If Rodgers signs then Gornell's off on loan to Rochdale with a view to a permanent move in Jan apparently.

GT says in today's interview that there has been one serious contact about loaning one of our players so putting 2 and 2 together................................

For me he certainly wouldn't. Gornell has contributed very little this season and looked disinterested, demotivated and all together lazy. When Stuart Dunne poised the question to Turner if Gornell was fit in the last match he played for us, he answered straight away that Gornell was fit and had no issues. I got the sense then that Turner was tired of defending Gornell and that he would be heading for the door from that moment. Thanks for your contribution last season Gornell but your level was League 2 and frankly if you aren't 100% committed to the club then the door is there and we can do better. Furthermore people on here often point to the fact he showed 'potential'. I pointed out on my last thread about how we as a club are failing in nurturing potential so maybe the best place for him isn't here.

It's a shame (if true ) , he works hard but needs to find some form, a few goals at L2 and he could be back here and in form.

Not sure what happened with Gornell............... he was our best player pre season, looking really sharp. Probably just didn't score early enough in the season to keep his spirits and performance high.

The whisper I heard was Bradshaw to Morecambe.

I hope this is not true I believe its partnering him with Morgan which is the problem. last season I remember we was all worried he was going to be sold because he was playing so well I believe he is/will be a good player he just needs a goal or two and the right partner to get him going.

As I've said before I defy anyone to play along side Morgan, the guy is impossible to read and I felt Gornell was a victim of that and so was Collins last season. Hence we finished the season strongly with Morgan out of the side. Yes I was also very disappointed with Gornell in the Yeovil game but for me he is the only striker at the club who's touch can hold the ball up and bring others into play, something we have lacked since he's been out of the team. As I said, he's ultimately judged on goals but there is more to a strikers game than goals. Unfortunately due to our poor form goals are badly needed, and having not scored it makes him the easy scape goat but I think their has been some much worse performances up front this season by other players in the side who who will no doubt continue to be in favour under GT.

Can't say I rate gornell, hasn't IMO lived up to anything. Having said that I'm sure he will go elsewhere and score a few, to be followed by calls for turner to bring back our "best striker"
Funny old world.

The goal he scored at Accrington last season, which nearly clinched promotion, was the type of goal that you would not see from Morgan. He shielded the ball from the defenders, before turning and burying 20 yard shot into the bottom corner. His hold up play and intelligent flick-ons also played a big part in some of the goals that Collins scored. As others have said, I think that Marvin is used to being employed as a lone striker and finds it difficult to link up witha strike partner.

Its partnering anybody with Morgan, the only formation that works with Morgan is 4-5-1 and then when he doesn't perform or gets sent off then we loose. If Rogers was to come in he would be ideal partner for Rodgers a bit like JC was.

I wouldn't give up on Gornell just yet but he needs games and confidence so a loan might be just the ticket. If Rodgers signs I would partner him with Proctor and have Marv as a impact sub. My concern with Marv/Rodgers combo is that both are from the Grant Holt school of enthusiastic strikers which means that they get though loads of work but can get pulled out of position to easily. 'Lazy' Jemson was a good example of a striker who knew where he needed to be rather than going where the ball is.

we could have up to 8 names on our loan list, and only 1 enquiry. that tells us a lot about the others

Interesting move...
One which surely opens the way up for a incoming signing later today?

Gornell will leave in Jan Totally agree, the comment by GT a few weeks back was the end for Gornell. Be amazed if we see him play for us again.

It wouldn't surprise me if Terry goes there and immediately finds his goal touch, Dale's manager got the best out of him at Accrington and I expect the same to happen again.
I think we have seen him in a Town shirt for the last time. Good luck to him

It does now look like Rodgers will be joining us,but am i the only one who thinks we need to get in a centre back or two.I would rather go out and win a few games 1-0 at the moment.I really dont think Jones or Hector were the answer we are all looking for.

We need a spark in the team, something to get confidence up... Rodgers fits the bill by doing that for the fans... and if he could bag a couple of goals over the next few games it might lift the team, who showed at the start of the season they should have enough to stay up...
Gornell did not have that spark this season, and has been dreadful, so on like for like, well worth the changes...

I'm afraid too many fans are looking back with rose coloured specs. If Rodgers joins us I hope he is a success but I can only see it as a short term solution to a long term problem.

It is, but what else would you do till January? Leave it as it is and see the side adrift in the relegation zone and nobody would want to sign for us then or try something by getting rid of a disinterested player and bringing in one who is itching for a chance to play somewhere? No brainer really. I just can't wait for Sam Aiston to sign next week, we lack a guy with the ability to run 60 yards to win a throw in.

I dont think anyone is suggesting its anything more than that... likely he will be off to NY Red Bulls again in the new year if his Visa is sorted... but if he came here scored 5-10 goals between now and then it would help us, and not diminish the good feeling fans have for him...
Its one case where going back is not a bad idea for once...
Nostalgia is a powerful thing, and if GT can harness this, and have at lease one forward who's confidence is not crushed by the negative reaction each bad effort they have causes from the fans that got to help all round.
Still like ANY player coming in it could go bad, but there is has to be less change of luke going 5 games without a goal than Gornell or Morgan
