Interesting goings on at Swindle. Apparently the club's major shareholder wanted the chairman, Jeremy Wray replaced, and he has now stepped down, to be replaced by a former ambassador to Afghanistan, Sir William Pavey. The locals are getting their knickers in a twist, as Wray was seen as Di Canio's main ally, and in his post match rambling, (sorry, interview), he supposedly slated every member of the board as well as the players, but not Mr. Wray. Some of them fear that the mad Italian may start to reconsider his position - now wouldn't that be funny. There is also suspicion that the move paves the way for a middle-east takeover, which would not be to everyone's liking.

Chris Wise BBC Wiltshire Sport
Many Swindon Town supporters will be shocked by the news of Wray's departure.
His relationship with the manager Paolo Di Canio was an extremely close one, both publicly and privately. This announcement is inevitably likely to raise questions over the future of Di Canio, who described the outgoing chairman as the "best any manager can have".
Di Canio was seen franticly gesticulating towards the directors' box during Town's 2-2 draw with Coventry on Saturday - signalling his discontent about the club's current transfer embargo.
Swindon's board believe it is time to take a tighter rein on the club's finances but this has already caused friction between the manager and those in power at the top.

Looks to me as if he's made them an offer they can't refuse. (see what i've done there Its back me or sack me, but they cannot back him anymore with extra funds as the simple truth is, he's spent all the money available on crap. He's put them in this position, with the backing of board members who have now left. He has nowhere else to go. One thing about Di Canio, he's a very clever and shrewd operator. He plays to the supporters with this, i love this club and will do anything to get it promoted bollox, which in itself puts pressure on the board to back him, regardless. Taxi for the Italian nutjob.

Can they afford to sack him either? Compensation packages and all that.

I think he is working at his exit strategy, and maybe has his eyes set on another northern club? I see Sheff Wednesday's manager , after one win in eight , has been given the dreaded vote of confidence by Mandaric. Di Canio returning as the all conquering hero..

I hope Roland has sent the Swine an invoice for the damage Dickanio did to the away dug out on the last visit, slamming the seats, kicking up the turf on the touchline, noise pollution....

It amuses me how they don't care about us, yet one of them was just casually browsing our messageboard (as you do...), and now they're all going to great pains to point out just how much they don't care about us.
Silly Internet rivalry fuelled by the keyboard warriors on both sides.

Just been laughing at some of the posts on there. It's mostly petty "they're a small club" comments. Find it amusing how some pretend not to care about us... certainly seems that way!

I'd rather be a Shrewsbury fan, rising slowly through the leagues by spending the money we have. Rather than an arrogant Swindon fan, having a temporary high, followed by a (hopefully) long and painful low.

funny lot and not very well informed either. ~One of them seemed to think Turner would never manage above league 1 even though he already has with 3 clubs including us. The scattergun approach to management that Mr di Canio employs does work but not in the long term, the money will run out or the backers will tire of constantly putting their hands in their pockets and the wheels will come off again. They may well be a bigger club , but only by a little bit because they aren't a really big club. They managed a season in the premiership aeons ago and the memory of that makes them think they are a bit better than they are. we spent a decade in the championship aeons agon and some of us think we should be there again. not such a big difference really. they could only manage a 9000 attendance on a non premiership weekend last time out and they only missed out on a defeat to Coventry by a couple of minutes so they cant be that good

Could only manage 9000 on a non-Premiership weekend, that's 3000 more than us and as there's no Premiership clubs in their vicinity there was never gonna be a huge increase.

Swindon have the m4 on their doorstep , so it wouldnt take long to get to reading or london for that matter.. And 9000 is not particularly impressive and doesn't make them the big side they claim to be.+ If they are this big club that they spout on about, you'd expect a few more than they got, at least double k figures. so like a say, they are a biggish club in this league and we are smaller , but they aren't real madrid are they?
