In my opinion the best game I have seen this season. Two teams trying to win a game, a good referee who tried to let the game flow. Town just about edged it.
Man of the match, Chris Neal with good performances from Collins, Richards, SCS and Wildig .

Open game, Vale will feel hard done by but had they won then we would be feeling hard done by.
Thought Gornell and Collins played well up front, Wroe passed it about nicely, and Wright worked hard with little end product. Oh, and great saves from Neal too.

Neal Man of the Match, closely followed by Wroe
I've never seen a more one sided 1-0 apart from Richards and Dodds (who could both be good in a Salop team) and the saves from the keeper - a pretty average side

Getting closer and in a tough game against difficult opposition we showed our metal. Finishing line is in sight, and this time i think we will actually cross the bugger, even after some decisions going against us. COYB!!!

I just hope we haven't signed Loft or Richards for next season, they're both pants.

What a great game both sides played their part. Great noise from the west stand. The south stand has never been that loud before. What a GREAT strike from Richards. Four points from three games and we are there in league one. Town fans are a amazing bunch and a credit to stfc. Turner is a legend We are going up!! Amazing night

Neal- MOTM, a confident and composed performance saving the day. Richards goal is exactly the kind of thing we've been missing in previous years, we missed out on promotion because we lacked of that bit of magic and under Simpson or Peters that match would have finished 0-0. We are nearly there. COYB!

A really good, open game between two teams both going for the win. As Ed says, we edged it.
Most of Neal's saves were saves you'd expect a keeper to make, apart from one flying up to his left midway through the second half, which was a cracker.
Did anyone get a decent view from behind Richards's shot, btw? From where I was, it looked like the goalkeeper should have done much better, but a player ran across my line of sight just as he raised his hands to try and parry it.

Just back myself, obviously gutted to have lost, thought we deserved a point, but I would say that. We probably would of got it if it wasn't for your keeper.
You can see why your up there, fast passing and creating space around our defence. Your right back was immense tonight and the previous game and looks far better than league 1 standard. Shame that can't be said for our clown in the same position.
Oh well, hopefully see you in League 1 in a season or two.......

Amazing night we still need 6 to be sure of going up, but I do think we'll do it 5 really with the big GD advantage over Torquay - if we get a win and two draws they'd have to win all three of theirs by about four goals to pass us, which realistically isn't going to happen.

I think the keeper will be disappointed but the ball was travelling a fair amount and it was moving all over the place. Very difficult for the keeper them.

Think you've called it about right there mate and nice to see some decent comments from a decent Vale fan. I thought Griffiths was immense for Vale last night and was finding space all over the pitch. I did clap him when he was subbed, which is not something I am normally moved to do.

Have to agree - I thought Griffiths was outstanding for Vale and was the one player I was really worried about.

Yeah, unlike some of my rose tinted shrews comrades, I thought Vale were unlucky not to get a point tonight and Neal made some good saves to keep us in it, if Micky Adams can maybe sleep with the administrators or do whatever it takes to keep the nucleaus of that side they may be in with a shout next season on that evidence. Very entertaining game though and very open from both teams considering the magnitude of the match, most enjoyable 1-0 ive seen town play in for a long time

Enjoyed the game, the type of game you just couldnt take your eyes off. Was very nerve racking after we scored up until the final whistle. Port Vale played there part in a good game, the attempts they had were mostly long range which shows our defence in good light. Am i right in thinking if we win saturday and torquay or crawley lose, then were up?

No doubt Vale had a lot of chances, Neal made about 4 excellent saves from long range that could have gone in. I suppose if your being picky, Vale didn't really threaten apart from long range efforts - i don't remember too many other direct chances that they had in the penalty area for example

Another who was more than happy to see Griffiths coming off... he won almost everything, but then Richards and Wroes arial ability is not there strong point is it!
Vale were decent for long periods, but lacked that bit of quality going forward, Richards was decent but noting there to tell me we want to be taking him with us to League 1.
The M Richards shot was visious, real dip and swerve and the keeper did well to get anything on it. Considering the last two goals hes scored, you would like to think he will be encoraged to shoot more next season.
We should really have had a couple more, Wirghty hitting the post felt like something we might regret at the time, and the Vale keepers double save from Wright and Richards in the first half matched anything Neal did last night. And the shot from Collins in the first half of the bar. Thats was a great shot from a tight angle.
Most encoraging for me - Collins and Gornell - Finally a front two who are threat, are playing well together, passing to each other with all the nice flicks and backheels... and chaseing everything down. I even thought that Terry won more headers than he as for months, and there hold up play in the main was excellent. Harsh on Marvin, but you have to give C and G the rest of the season now. Great stuff

Am i right in thinking if we win saturday and torquay or crawley lose, then were up? You are. In fact, if we win, a Torquay draw is probably also effectively good enough, given that there's a 10 goal disparity in goal difference between us (which will have to grow by at least another 1 if they draw and we win). I'll add myself to the list of those praising Griffiths for Vale - I thought he had a very good game. For us, everyone was at worst decent, but I thought Neal, Grandison, Richards and Gornell were particularly good.

Had a scary likeness to the abandoned game! Ebbed and flowed with both teams enjoying several spells of domination. Most of Vale's chances were long range where as ours were more clear cut, I think we just did enough for the win, Vale though put in one of the best performances I can remember from away teams here this season. For us, Gornell was magnificent with Collins, Wright was lively and always after the ball and Neal made some cracking saves Surely Town can't mess this chance up now?

Great game. 4 superb saves by Neal which is a bit worrying, ie not closing down quickly enough. The movement from Gornell and Collins was impressive, something they've obviously worked on in training. That movement wore down their defenders and created space. Still think we need more width, how many quality crosses came in for our strikers, not many. Credit to Vale for making it a good game. Heard strong rumour we're signing Richards.

This (rather biased) Staffordshire report rattles on about a red-card offence that Sharpsy is supposed to have committed late on: www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/story-15848954-detail/story.htmlI haven't seen that incident mentioned on any of the threads, even by Vale fans. I couldn't get to the game last night, but can any one else comment on it? Also, he reckons the Vale fans out-noised us. Hard to believe...
