 Strikers at the club|to many
« Thread Started on Nov 7, 2009, 8:51pm »

We've got Hibbert,Robinson,Elder,Bright,Riza,Gray and Fairhurst. Simmo now plays Fairhurst with Hibbert because he now realizes the others aren't good enough.we need cover at right back and left back but we have so many strikers can we afford cover in these positions.i just am at a loss to what Simmo is doing.

Simmo has signed these strikers and half of them are dead-wood

I'm trying to think of something positive to say about Bright.

So far the only 2 comments I can come up with are that 1. he compares favourably with Elder (though that might be a trifle harsh on Elder) and 2. he has the same pedigree as Robbie Turner.

And to think we let Constable go to Oxford! Even Symes is preferable.

Looks very much like a trial and error approach to signing players without doing enough research to find out if the players are any good.

I dont think he's preferable to Elder, both are useless but Elder surely edges it ???

Yes team of 79.

Rumour has it he took the word of Holt who saw Bright on trial at Norwich that Bright was worth signing!

Can't believe he gave Bright 2 year contract on the back of a trial? Why? At least Elder appears to try even when low on confidence and ability.

i think bright and elder are dead wood,he made a bad call signing them, elder cannot even shine against non league opposition it seems,he paid good money and a good contract for him, so he has to persist with him i guess?

In answer to the original question. "Strikers at the club, too many?" I'd guess no. Not enough.

Half a good one in Hibbo - but who else have we got?

Agree - not enough strikers who can strike!

I might get a bit of slack for this comment but I think the amount of goals Hibbo has got already this season completely flatters him. I dont see an awful lot different from him than I did last year, apart from maybe he has lady luck on his side. He's renouned for starting off the season well and then hibernating during the winter months. I wouldnt be surprised if he does it again.
He's not a match winner in the same way Holt was or Asamoah was but granted he is the best of a very bad bunch.
I counted 9 strikers by the last match of last season and we were a one man team then. I'd stick Langmead up there to be honest, thats if we had anyone to replace him at the back. Cos lets be honest Mike Jackson has about as much chance of playing for this club again as his namesake has of coming back for the grave. The squad is upside down. Only two established centre backs and seven strikers, what is going on?

Whilst I have been very surprised at hibbo's goals thus far they seem to have dried up and won't be at all surprised if we are now back to last year's Hibbo.

This three year contrat should have been example from which we learnt

Its ridiculous decisions like offering three year contracts to players thats costing us. Had Gary Peters not taken it upon himself to give Glyn Garner a three year contract on about £150,000 a week, we might have been able to keep on to Steve Phillips and so on. Wade Fairhurst looks a good little player, but even if he was available I dont think Simpson could expect any funding from Wycherley after the joke signings of Kris Bright and Nathan Elder

I already know Elder and Bright are rubbish as does everybody else.

What I am really worried about now though is Hibbo. I think puppetmaster has hit the nail on the head about his form. What is his recent record. About 2 goals (penalty and backside) in his last 8 or 9? It isnt good enough and today his touch looked the same as it always has been. He didnt get given any good service admittedly but he still should carry a threat on his own, he didnt! I think he really needs a goal now, cos the way it is going this season will end up like his first. Robinson is suffering too. They need to pick themselves up and bag a few.

I'm sure Elder and Bright can still do a job for the town. Club shop, lounge, parking cars etc

Veiwfromblock2 that is spot on :D :D :D :)Not seen enough from Brite Elder or riza to suggest they are even average players at this level. You know its last roll of the dice when those two come on.Too many strikers no where near enough Quality. :-X :-X

Perhaps we can negotiate a season long loan for Bright to go somewhere.

Though as he's certainly not good enough to get into Staines's side I'm not sure where!

I dread to think how much of our budget is spent on his and Elder's wages.

Agreed. I would've thought Elder is one of the clubs biggest earners. Panic buy and premature decision by Simpson.

The only thing Bright has over Elder is a first touch. To have given him a 2 year contract surely is a bad desicion. Elder is awful. To call himself a professional footballer is a joke.

bright and elder have got to be two of the worst so called footballers to lead our front line ive seen in 30yrs of watching salop and hibbo will not get the goals to get us out of this league.

as for the frontmen to leave us under simpson they all seem to be hitting the net every other week.

Bright generally receives and lays the ball off Ok but thats where the positives for me with him end, the fact he does not shine in reserve games tells me something.

I agree Hibbo looks like he is back to last years performance level and this may be because he is still struggling with the achilles problem but all in all I am not impressed with our attacking options.....looks like we are relying on two loan signings who are here on a temporary basis in Fairhurst and Devitt

How many of you went to Tranmere pre-season?

It was a joy to watch how Kris Bright and Jake Robinson linked up there, and how they played all game. I think Kris Bright will turn out to be a good player; what real chance has he had to be the ball winner with a small striker feeding off him?

Don't rule Kris Bright out yet, but Elder on the other hand ... Well [image]

Week in week out how many strikers have we seen who Simmo let go because they werent good enough score good goals. IMO he doesnt have a clue who our best strike force is, and it's just case of throw them on and keep your fingers crossed.
We showed yet again that when we get quality loanees in we play better and win games, why cant we ever buy some of this quality?

assuming fairhurst leaves I think Hibbert,Robinson,Bright and Gray are the ones we should keep. We need to start putting Gray on for the last 10 minutes to run at tired defenders.
