Hi all, i come in peace and looking for answers!
As you know we are close to signing Grant Holt from yourselves. personally im quite excited by it as he seems as though he can score goals and works his nuts off.
So, what can we expect from him? Do you rate him? Attributes? Weaknesses? Who is he similar too?
Some people i've spoke to have said "he's slow and will never cut it in L1", whereas others have said his goals can get us back in the championship! I hope the latter is correct.
So....over to you guys!

He didn't do very well at Nottingham Forest, which suggests he might struggle to cut it in League One (please feel free to pass that onto your manager).

Officialy the best player in League 2 and one of the best players iv ever seen play for us and carried us through alot of last season.
Good points are his determination, goal scoring and creativity.
Bad points are his disciplin, and sometimes seems to try something special when he should take the simple option.
Very good signing for any L1 and probably Championship teams and you should be very exited.

Works hard, not a great finisher but good in the air.Spends too much time out wide and not in the box and is a good penalty taker.Should be ok in League one as long as he is played as a striker not a winger like Forest did.

Fans favourite by a mile, a player that gives 100% everytime he goes out and someone who works tirelessly for the cause.
Not the best striker I have seen at the Town by a long way and most definitely not what i would class as a natural goalscorer - if and when he is through 1 on 1 with the keeper just close your eyes and wait for the groan as you realise the keeper has won it - but he will will get his share of gaols throughout the season and is easily good enough for the Division you play in.
Good luck to him and to your club, I think this si a good deal for all involved.

He's crap at football, and supports Ipswich - you ought to withdraw your offer for him.

Can create something out of nothing and will chase all over the park.
Bad points: He doesn't put enough chances away - was top goalscorer in league 2 last year but missed a hatful. although he goes all over the park he is sometimes then out of position. However if you have a decent enough midfield he may not need to track back as much. Discipline is an issue as he picks up a lot of yellows, some are just plain stupid.
Watch out for him touching up and winding up other teams defenders, a highlight in itself.

The point about his work-rate is spot on.
He is one of the hardest working strikers i've seen.
But i think that aswell as being an attribute of his, this can also be to the detriment of his game. Because he is so hard working, he tends to drop extremely deep to get involved in play, and whilst chances are being created up front, he isn't in the mixer to get on the end of them.
Holt's finishing is sometimes questionable. on quite a few occasions last term, he missed some very very presentable chances. The sort of chances that you would expect to be converted by someone of his quality. But on the flip side of that, some of his goals were pure class!!
His penalties in a game situation are almost faultless, but in a shootout situation- steer clear.
Another of Holt's weaknesses include his disciplinary record. i think he picked up somewhere in the region of 14 yellow cards last season, leading him to miss 3 league games due to suspension. He did seem to pick up some very cheap yellow cards, and to some extent, it was as if his reputation went before him. On occasions, it was quite easy to tell that there was a rash challenge on the way, especially if something had gone against him. This again, does tend to stem from his tremendous work rate though.
All in all, IF you get him (which seems quite likely), you will be getting a very decent striker, with a tremendous work rate. But of course, you have to bare a few points in mind-
I can only judge against League 2 opposition He has just had an operation At STFC= big fish in small pond At NCFC= normal fish in bigger pond The quality of players playing around him at NCFC won't enable him to stand out as much He has played and (to some extent) failed at League 1 level
This is only my opinion, and you will inevitably get differing opinions the more responses you get.
If you do get Grant Holt, you will undoubtedly get a player with something about him. And definitely a 100% tryer

Wow horse1! Brilliant summary!
You say IF.....i was one of the city fans who broke the story as a friend of mine is involved with the club,he was driving down yesterday.
So hopefully, he can get the goals that we need to go back up. Oh......do you want Jamie Cureton?

I'd have though NCFC were a bigger fish in league one than we are in league two....

Expect goals, crunchin tackles, needless yellow cards and lots of ear bashing the ref.
Expect him to chase down and win the ball when he is not entitled to, and then be absent from a decent cross because he was 40 yards back tackling someone in the build up.
Expect him to score every penalty, unless it is in a shoot out.
Expect him to miss most one on ones and score most headers.

Will be very interested in what you have to pay for him bearing in mind (1) He is under contract to us & (2) we don't need to sell him to survive.
I guess anything sort of £400,000 will be expected by most on here

I think people are often too harsh about Holt's time in the league above with Forest. In his first season, he was played up front, scored 18 goals and won Forest's player of the season.
Unfortunately for Holt, Colin Calderwood came in and had ideas of his own. He decided to play Holt well out of position (on the left wing). Inevitably, the goals dried up and people saw his season as a failure since he is regarded as a striker. He proved in his first league 1 season that he can be a prolific striker at that level.
I think Norwich have made a fantastic signing. Perhaps they may have paid a little bit too much for him, but I genuinely think he'll be a success there. He's probably the best player I've seen in a Town shirt (and before anybody snaps my head off, I've only been watching for 10 years)
Good points - Strong as an ox - Works extremely hard - Very good in the air - Scores loads of goals!
Bad points - Suspect when one on one with the keeper. - Too many yellow cards means he misses too many games through suspension.

His goal scoring ability is exaggerated when you look at the number that were penalties but he will give his all

Our stand out player last season, differance between potential promotion and mid table football. Good points his strength, determination and energy. Ruffles a few feathers now and then fly's into tackles he is not favourite to win and wins them more than not. Negatives he completely loses his head at times and this sometimes results in needless free kick's and takes his eye off the ball. Will be sorely missed and hard to replace
He completely bottles penalty shoot out's. If you reach Wembley & draw your buggered !
Will be a decent buy, as said above Holty is superman.
