I was talking to my new work colleague about Town although he's a Man Ure supporter used to watch Town years ago and we got chatting about Victor, he vaguely remembers him and so do I being so young but i know theirs countless stories about his tenure with Town, these are a few anecdotes I know of that may or may not be true: Took John McGinlay's new car for a test drive (without permission) and crashed it Radio Shropshire did a feature on the first day of pubs bein open all day and interviewed a very sloshed Victor Sang a George Benson song to a ref whilst being booked Went to take a corner and whilst spotting up the ball noticed a young boy eating crisps in the Wakeman End and asked for one and ate it The Exchange pub would have a Vodka Tonic sitting on the bar at 12:35 ever lunchtime in the week for Victor......training finished at 12:30 Broke a toe celebrating a goal Anybody got any others?

Veeeeeeeeeeeektooooooooooooorrr! Sadly,I think the broken toe one (Leeds?) is a myth. In breathe on 'em Salop,Mike Jones mentions Victors helpful remarks regarding Steve Pittmans off the field antics. "It was a vodka bottle he didn't hit him with". Genius.
Hope that's genuine

Hope that's genuine It was Leeds. We won 1 - 0. Mervyn Day was in goal. Victor scored and did a sommersault, he didn't break his toe doing the sommersault, he did it just before, according to the Manager. At a later game, Victor wasn't playing for some reason. again. He sat behind my Brother and kept tapping him on the shoulder. Every time Frankie looked round, Victor gave him him a hazy benevolent smile!

I'm not really sure what went wrong but the legendary mcniell era pretty much ended is disaster and we have never really recovered we seemingly had 3 or 4 gazzas in the side during that period

Remember hearing from my uncle,Victor was on his final final final warning and was being carpeted in RW s office. All of a sudden the doors burst open after a huge commotion and an angry father burst in to complain that Victor had got his daughter in the pudding club!!!J ust think there may be a teenage son of victor in town some where lets track him down and sign him quick. Also pulled a very drunk Vic off a guy on mardol fighting he thanked me after and gave me 2 tickets to the next game.Dougie Bell,Stevie Pittman,Alan Irvine and vic all liked a drop of the hard stuff before and after a game ,agree with Pilch dont think we have ever recovered since them days.

Some good players in that side containing Vic.
But putting misty eyed nostalgia to one side, it really was the start of the long slide to footballing misery.

Don't know whether this is true, but there was a story that the club had given Vic the train fare for a ticket to Darlington when he went on loan.
Darlington officials were waiting for him to turn up but there was no sign of him, eventually they 'phoned Shrewsbury and after a search Vic was found in a pub near the station having spent his train fare on booze.

I was at both the home game against Leeds and the away game at Boundary Park. What memories!
I also recall Dougie Bell coming on as sub against Birmingham and virtually running through the entire side with his 1st touch of the ball.
And now we are obliged to watch this sterile mundane rubbish that passes as the present team. What a contrast.

I also remember those incidents with Dougie Bell , i also remember how we tore Man City apart away from home, i know he had a hugh impact on the game we won 3-1, think he got a hat trick, weeks later he got subbed during a home game after a terrible performance and flicked the V's to the crowd, that turned out to be the end of his STFC stint !

Dougie Bell and co were fantastic to watch........and a nightmare to manage as McNeill found to his cost (best eye for Talent in STFC history IMO......hence why he went on to scout). Bell indeed gave a forearm salute to the family stand and was told he would never play for club again.......he did thankfully but ended up being loaned out to Hull if I recall correctly. Best memories of Bell would be turning Robert Hopkins inside out in a 2-0 home victory v's Blues and his winner away at Blackpool in 1-0 victory (dreamland results these days). Kasule.......too many moments to re live, remember his ending off at home to Stoke in the days of the inflatable pink panthers?!?!

What an amazing autobiography the Vic Kasule story would make. Read a few cracking books penned by lower league footballers but the tale of Vic's career would be simply superb. A legend in his own liquid lunchtime.

You're right about Bell's impact in that game, but he only scored once. David Moyes got the other 2.

Blimey! This is going back a bit. I rememer that run as well. I saw tele pictures of Dougie Bell hitting the crossbar for Rangers in a Scottish game and thinking, "what's he doing playing for us?". I found out why. I thought our midfield of Bell, McNally and Thomas, (Mickey), would be the best in the Division, but it didn't happen.

Didn't Neil McIan(ALS ) claim that missing out on John Cornforth ruined his 'dream midfield'? There was a lot of talent in the team of the late 80's,shame some were nutters.Imagine those players under todays scientific regime of training, diet etc.

Wimbledon had the pundits label as the Crazy Gang, but Shrewsbury had their own. The most surreal era the town have had, so many "characters", Victor/Tony Kelly/Mickey Thomas etc. After the cozy years with Turner and Chic, things changed and with McNeil in charge somehow the clubs identity changed. The most talented relegated side we ever had. Weird. And that biz with playing in white shirts-WTF, hated it. A horrible time leaving that Division. Remember Victor pushing a supermarket trolley through Gains Park with about 10 kids following him . He turned up a couple of times after he left the team in the Wakeman End , probably hoping for a game. Crazy days.

His goal at home versus Swindon (I think) is one of the best I have ever seen scored by a Town player.

if my memory serves me , the goal against swindon was his first for the club. but my fondest memory was his goal at oldham, bending the ball around their keeper.

Hello I would like to ask you nice people... Is there a way I could get in touch with Victor? I had met him years ago when he was playing in Malta. I'd appreciate it if any one could give me any help!!!
